This 9ice Dude! [Aug. 6th, 2008|10:46 am]

What better way to launch this blog than start off with this...

"...omo i like your ringtone

lemme rock your ringtone"

I remember the first time I heard 9ice on 2shot's 'Make them talk', I coulda sworn it was 2face but couldn't help but notice the style was different, then I finally saw the video on Music Africa and was like 9ice... I liked the way he looked in the video, he didn't look like your everyday celebrity but he just seemed more concerned with the song than looking great for TV.

A few years later, I remember clearly, I was at a friend's house and we were just talking randomly about stuff and then the 'Little Money' video came out and my friend went on and on about how 9ice was the next best thing in Naija....I kept watching and then when it got to...

'...O mo 9ice when me still dey use leg waka for Akoka

U no know me when me still dey find CD writer for the whole Bariga....

Omo farabale osu ma gbo mi ni Chanel O..."

...a 9ice fan was born. On my way home I bought the album from a local bootleg store and rocked 'Little Money' till the CD had scratches all over. Even when friends would make comments on how razz and uninteresting the song and the album itself was, I still rocked my Little Money, looking forward to days when I'd hammer and share my wealth...lol.

Just a few days into 2008, my favourite cousin Uyi came to stay over for a few days and all through, every sentence he'd make would start and end with 'Gongo Aso' and that's how I heard 'Gongo Aso' and kai' I nearly lost my mind...(it beat the way I felt  when I first heard 'Shake Bodi' by the Trybesmen or Asa's Bibanke) I'd randomly check radio stations, ask people if they had it on their phones, look around for the album till I finally got it.

It's been months now and this 9ice dude has totally redefined the word 'celebrity' in Naija.

It was crazy when he walked into the Silverbird Galleria yesterday at DJ Humility's Crash Party; I have never actually seen my fellow Nigerians scream and act without care like they did yesterday. In just a few months, 9ice has flown up the ladders to be mentioned alongside big Naija acts like 2face, D'banj and P-Square.

What makes him different from all the others who had hits on the radio in the same period?

The beats? "Na the same beat I dey use no be film trick"

It's simple..."Omo na turn by turn"

If you ask me I'd say it's just his time.

Have you seen the Street Credibility video by the way? It rocks hard, 9ice a.k.a Adigun looks really good in this video.

Big ups to Clarence Peters…
